Gear List for Survival and Bushcraft (Phase 1)

 Here is the list of items and details for Bushcraft and Survival (Phase 1):  I have linked several of the items below through Amazon.   As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. 


1. Wire coat hanger


 2. Can of pork and beans or chili and can opener (Whatever you like to  eat but it needs to be in a standard sized can, we will be using it for a  project) This is for eating on the first night of class, you will need  to bring your own appropriate food based on your dietary needs for the  rest of the 48 hour class. (Two suppers, two breakfasts and two lunches)


3. Spoon, cup and/or bowl or mess kit (Should be metal as this will be your cookware.  Stainless Steel is best as aluminum cookware can have a chemical reaction with some wild edibles .)

4. Wool blanket at least 80 percent wool (The best is surplus military, we will be sleeping in it) (Online or a surplus store, Harbor Freight also sells a wool blanket but it is a lower percentage wool blend.)

 5. 6x8 brown and silver tarp per person ( About 10 dollars at Home Depot, you must have this, you can also purchase the 8x10 size if you  are sharing it with a partner or a child)

6. Non-Insulated (single  wall) metal canteen or water bottle (16-32 Oz.) Get a larger mouth  bottle or canteen over a small mouth one. (For boiling water, must have  this, Amazon or the Self Reliance Outfitters store) I also will have some for sale at the class starting at $15 apiece .https://amzn.to/3Gy921S  Water will be provided at the class site.


7. Knife with a minimum 4 inch, non-serrated blade with sheath, best if it has a full tang.

 15. Compass with rotating Bezel, mirror and a sighting notch (This is  a must have and specific item to pass the class)  I will have these for sale at the class for $15.

16. Two 48" bungee cords (With metal or rubber coated hooks, can't be the thick plastic hooks)

 - Payment for taking the 48 hour class ($225.00) is due in full at least one  week before before class start date and is non-refundable if requested  less than three days before class begins. You can pay using PayPal or you can send it through the mail - Make checks or money orders payable to James Bender
If checks do not clear there will be a charge of $25.00 plus whatever bank fees may occur. - You will be required to sign a liability waiver form before taking the class, they will be handed out upon arrival.  - Feel free to E-mail  me at benderknifeworks@yahoo.com.  I will give you the address where to  send the payment when you contact me.

-Class begins at 3pm on Thursday and continues until approximately 3-4 pm on Saturday depending on how long it takes the students to finish the tasks. We ask that you do not arrive more than 30 minutes before class begins. If you do arrive early, just wait and an instructor will meet you at 3pm.

-You may sleep in whatever you wish to bring the first night (Tent, hammock, etc.) but you must sleep in the shelter we teach you to build the second night
